Our Story

Opus started with two people who'd already spent years doing the small, exacting work most people never think about until it's done badly — metal breaking, coping, metal cladding, waterproofing. Juan and Bernardo learned that discipline the hard way, on job sites, long before either of them had a company to their name.

The standard came from somewhere specific. Bernardo's father — Mr. B. Soria, a craftsman with decades in the field — gave both of them something more valuable than a job: a hunger for the work itself, and a real definition of what "above and beyond" means for a client. That foundation is why Juan and Bernardo decided to build something of their own, rather than settle for good enough working for someone else.

Word got around Houston fast. Clients who trusted their small, unglamorous details started asking for more — bigger scopes, bigger builds, bigger responsibility. Juan and Bernardo built Opus to meet that demand, then built the formal expertise to back it up. Juan earned his BBA in Supply Chain Management from the University of Houston–Downtown, then an MS in Construction Management from Texas A&M University, turning the estimating and procurement discipline into what now keeps every Opus project on budget and on schedule. Bernardo earned his BS in Architecture from the University of Houston, turning an eye for detail shaped on job sites into the design language that shapes every Opus project from the first sketch.

What hasn't changed since those first jobs is the belief that the details nobody sees — the flashing, the joint, the seal — are exactly what separate work that lasts from work that doesn't. That's still true whether Opus is waterproofing a roof or building a home from the ground up.

Juan Vides

Chief Operations Manager — Estimating & Procurement

Juan is the one making sure every project's ambition and its budget actually agree with each other. With a BBA in Supply Chain Management from the University of Houston–Downtown and an MS in Construction Management from Texas A&M University, he brings a sharp, numbers-first discipline to Opus — sourcing materials, managing vendor relationships, and building estimates that hold up from first bid to final walkthrough.

For Juan, precision isn't the enemy of good design; it's what makes good design possible to build.

Bernardo E. Soria

Senior Designer & Project Management

Trained as an architect with a BS in Architecture from the University of Houston, Bernardo brings a designer's eye to every phase of a project, not just the drawings. He's the bridge between vision and execution — translating a client's aspirations into plans that are both beautiful and buildable, then staying close to the work as it comes to life.

His eye for detail traces back to watching his father, Mr. B, apply the same standard on job sites long before Opus existed.

The Foundation

Bernardo Soria

Superintendent

"The master builder who brings decades of hands-on expertise to every job site."

Mr. B is where the standard began. Years upon years of hands-on construction experience, with a specialty in waterproofing that's protected roofs, walls, and foundations across Houston through everything the region's climate can throw at a building.

He's the reason "good enough" was never good enough for the team he raised.
